Lindsey Vonn is continuing to recover from her disastrous crash at the Winter Olympics in Italy last month.
The 41-year-old U.S. Olympics star suffered a serious leg injury while falling at the Winter Olympics last month. Vonn promptly underwent surgery and is now back in the United States, recovering.
"Made it through surgery… it took a bit more than 6 hours to complete. As you can see, it required a lot of plates and screws to put back together but Dr Hackett did an incredible job. Thank you Dr Viola for the surgery assist as well!!" she wrote on Instagram.
"With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet… almost there. Baby steps."

But upon her return to the United States, Vonn has shared some difficult personal news. Her beloved dog, Leo, has died.
"Home sweet home. Feels good to sleep in my own bed… but wheeling through the front door without Leo greeting me like always was a very hard reality. A reality I had to face. Along with many other hard realities that lay in front of me as I move forward…." she wrote.
"I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy. It’s going to be a hard and painful journey but I am putting all of my energy into it, like I always do.
"I’m going to take some time for myself. I’ll give you updates when I can but right now my focus is on taking care of myself."
Losing a dog is always hard, but it's especially hard when you're in the middle of some painful progress in your professional life, too.
Our thoughts are with Lindsey as she continues to make her recovery.
Good for her for taking some time away from it all.
