United States skier Lindsey Vonn is one of the most well-renowned athletes to ever compete for America in the Olympics. Across her illustrious skiing career, Vonn won three Olympic medals, one gold during the downhill event in Vancouver in 2010, and two bronze medals, one in the Super-G in 2010 and another in the downhill in 2018.
The 41-year-old decided to give it one more go in the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, hoping for her fourth medal at the Winter Games.
However, just over one week before the Olympics started, Vonn suffered a completely torn ACL in her left knee. Despite this injury, she still decided to compete, and it did not end well.

Just 13 seconds into the downhill event in the 2026 Games, Vonn clipped a gate on the course and crashed down hard, as she had to be airlifted to a hospital. She suffered a broken ankle and complex fractures in her leg.
On Monday, the day she decided to attend the 2026 Met Gala, Vonn shared an inspiring video on social media of her taking her first steps without crutches since her injuries.
"First steps… I’m coming for you MET Gala!! 💪🏻," the caption read.
While her left leg was wrapped from tearing her ACL just over three months ago, Vonn has been adamant about having a speedy recovery. She has provided updates to her fans on social media throughout her rehab, and Monday's update is one that will excite her fans worldwide.
The Met Gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, is an annual fundraising gala that sees celebrities from many walks of life, including athletes, attend each year.
There's no doubt that Vonn walking into this year's Met Gala without crutches is something the entire sports world will love to see.
