Gotham FC defender Lilly Reale enjoyed a standout rookie season for club and country in 2025. Her reliable, lung-busting performances earned her the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year Award.

Reale logged 2,217 minutes in her debut NWSL season for Gotham and was relied upon by head coach Juan Carlos Amorós in the club's most important matches as the Bats captured the 2025 NWSL Championship.

The 22-year-old operated at left-back and center-back for all 26 NWSL regular-season games, and she appeared in every playoff game, proving to be a vital member of the Gotham machine.

"I am constantly reminded of how special this national team program is when I reflect on all of the relationships, knowledge, laughs and opportunities that U.S. Soccer has given me over the years,” Reale said. "It was this environment where I first learned what it truly took to reach the next level and just how different each person’s journey will look. This year in particular has been one marked by major growth moments, joy and lots of lessons. Through it all, I feel so lucky to have been surrounded by such charismatic teammates, coaches and fans. Being able to play alongside many of my role models and represent my country at the highest level is something that I’ll never take for granted.

"Looking back on all the incredible players that have won this award in past years only serves as added motivation for me to strive to follow in their footsteps. Thank you to everyone who has guided me on this journey, your support really means the world!"

Her steady performances for Gotham turned heads as she won the 2025 NWSL Rookie of the Year.

Reale is the 28th player to earn the award since its inception in 1998. Current U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone was the first recipient. Teammate Jadeyn Shaw won the award in 2022 while she was a member of San Diego Wave FC.

United States women's national team head coach Emma Hayes shared her excitement for Reale's bright future on Friday.

"It was a heck of a start to her pro career, but it wasn’t without adversity as well," Hayes said. "She’s a mentally and physically strong young player and a great teammate, so we are looking forward to watching her continue grow into her roles for club and country."

Reale has already made six appearances for the USWNT, and it's clear that Hayes has big plans for the Hingham, Massachusetts native.

As Gotham competes for four trophies in 2026 and the USWNT prepares for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, Reale will have the opportunity to keep adding to her growing reputation.
