Lexie Hull celebrated WNBA legend Nneka Ogwumike’s career by reposting a social media post about her retirement.
On Thursday, the WNBA wrapped up the regular season with the final set of games, which also marked the end of Ogwumike’s career.
The first overall pick in the 2012 WNBA Draft announced her retirement in August, ending a decorated career after 15 seasons.
Ogwumike and the Los Angeles Sparks faced the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday night. The Sparks left it all on the floor, but still came up short in a tightly contested affair at Crypto.com Arena, 76-75.
The former league MVP and WNBA champion finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and one steal to cap off her legendary career.
After the game, several media outlets paid tribute to the 36-year-old forward, including Bleacher Report W Sports. Hull reacted to Ogwumike’s retirement by sharing B/R’s post in her Instagram story.
“No. 1 pick (2012), Rookie of the Year, 2016 MVP, 2016 WNBA Champion, 11x All-Star, Sparks’ all-time leading scorer, WNBPA President since 2016 ✨ Thank you Nneka 🙏,” the post’s caption read.
Earlier in the evening, Hull and the Fever battled the Minnesota Lynx and suffered a tough 86-66 loss at Target Center.
The setback dropped them to the sixth seed in the league standings, setting up a matchup against the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, in the opening round of the playoffs.
Indiana is looking to avenge their semifinal loss to the Aces last year. The Fever lost the five-game series 3-2, but they were without their injured superstar point guard, Caitlin Clark.
