Legendary college basketball announcer Dick Vitale is not happy with how Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is being treated in the WNBA.
Clark, who is averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game in the 2026 season, was involved in some controversy recently. During a June 24 game against the Phoenix Mercury, the Fever All-Star took a hit to the throat area from Alyssa Thomas while she was down on the floor.
No foul was called on the play, but the WNBA later reviewed it and deemed it a Flagrant 2 foul. The league then suspended Thomas for one game.
Thomas then revealed that she received death threats and online harassment following the incident. It has since sparked plenty of discussions about Clark and the WNBA, with former NFL player Emmanuel Acho even going as far as saying that the league would be better off without Clark since she has become a bigger distraction.

Rich Lowry of the New York Post touched on the subject in a recent opinion piece titled, "Women’s basketball is out to destroy superstar Caitlin Clark — and itself, too." Lowry highlighted how the WNBA is not protecting Clark and is making her "seem unwelcome and an object of scorn."
Vitale, for his part, saw the piece by Lowry and shared it on social media with an equally strong message.
"Absolutely makes 'No Sense' that @Caitlinclark22 is targeted in such a negative manner by many of her peers. She should be treated like ROYALTY for what she has done for the @WNBA!" the college basketball broadcasting icon wrote.
For what it's worth, it's not the first time Vitale has called out the WNBA and its players for their treatment of Clark. Last year, he also shared that it's "sad" to see the "absurd" way WNBA players are behaving toward the Fever guard.
Vitale is also not alone when it comes to criticizing the perception players have toward Clark. Basketball legend Candace Parker recently pointed out that it seems WNBA players have "insecurities" after voting Clark as the 11th-best guard in the league.
