The NBA community might not have to wait much longer to find out where LeBron James is heading for the 2026-27 season.
Initially, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat were mentioned as the top suitors for James. The Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers later emerged as options for the NBA's all-time leading scorer. The 76ers reportedly helped out their chances of landing James when they acquired Jaylen Brown in a trade with the Boston Celtics.
“A key factor in any sort of Philadelphia pursuit of LeBron is Tyrese Maxey,” ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said. “Not only because of his talent, which is awesome, but he’s one of Klutch’s core clients. He’s basically a part of LeBron’s extended family.”
While it's possible James takes his talents to Philadelphia, The Athletic's Sam Amick only mentioned the Cavaliers and Heat as true contenders during a radio interview Wednesday.
"I’ve had Miami tell me it’s Cleveland," Amick said. "I’ve had Cleveland tell me it’s Miami. And the Warriors have seemingly had a lot of pessimism recently."

What is LeBron looking for?
Fans are convinced James will make a decision this weekend at Fanatics Fest, which would be quite the spectacle.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the priority for James is to "compete for a championship" and be part of a winning culture.
The Cavaliers and Heat both had winning cultures when James was on their respective rosters. Does he believe he can be the missing piece to their championship puzzles? Only time will tell.
