Kansas City Chiefs perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the talk of the offseason in the NFL. Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee during a Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers last season on Dec. 14.

He has been going through a vigorous recovery process since the injury, hoping to be back on the field on Sept. 14 when the Chiefs begin their 2026 season at home against the Denver Broncos.

Kansas City began its organized team activities on Tuesday, and ESPN reporter Nate Taylor provided the latest update on the health of Mahomes and his participation during the Chiefs' practice.

Taylor said that while the media was not allowed to watch the practice, Mahomes was on the field participating with his teammates.

"Today is the first day that Patrick Mahomes is back on a football field with his teammates, and he did participate in some form and fashion, I was told today during the Chiefs' opening OTA practice," Taylor said. "This has been one of the more important dates of the Chiefs' offseason, with Patrick Mahomes obviously recovering and rehabbing from his torn ACL and LCL in his left knee."

He said that while he knows that Mahomes participated on the field, he was not told what the star quarterback did or didn't do at practice, as the Chiefs did not release much video from Tuesday's OTA.

During Mahomes' illustrious nine-year career with the Chiefs, he has thrown for 35,939 yards and 267 touchdowns with 85 interceptions. His 285.2 passing yards per game is the best mark in NFL history. This has helped him reach six Pro Bowls and win three Super Bowl titles with Kansas City.

Taylor said that when the media is allowed to watch practice on Thursday, there will be more of an indication of where Mahomes' recovery process stands.
