The Carolina Panthers are going to be firmly in the mix for the NFC South crown in 2025, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start to think about the 2027 draft.
This upcoming draft is predicted to be loaded with talent, especially at the skill positions. That’s a good thing for the Panthers, because they could definitely use more weapons for Bryce Young.
Young is on pace to have his best season in 2026, but it would be nice if somebody other than Tetairoa McMillan or Jalen Coker could be relied on. In a new 2027 mock draft, the Panthers draft a player at a position that’s been a black hole for years now.
Panthers Select Trey’Dez Green in New Mock

Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports releases a new mock each Thursday.
This week’s edition has the Panthers using the No. 19 pick on LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green. Green figures to be one of the top tight ends in the 2027 class, and he’s one of the most reliable weapons on a contending LSU team.
“Bryce Young continues to show encouraging progression, but if the Panthers want to unlock the full potential of this passing game, giving their franchise quarterback a dynamic weapon at tight end would be a worthy pursuit,” said Easterling. “Green has a massive frame and wingspan that makes him a consistent challenge for any defender at the catch point, and he’s got room to add bulk and get stronger to round out his skill set as an every-down player who can line up all over the field.”
As Easterling mentioned, Bryce Young has looked awesome for the most part this season, so the team needs to keep surrounding him with talent.
The Panthers haven’t had a reliable tight end in a long time. The Tommy Tremble/Mitchell Evans/Ja’Tavion Sanders trio doesn’t appear to be a solution, and Darren Waller is just an occasional red zone threat at this point.
Green has the potential to be one of the most explosive tight ends in the league. The LSU product caught 33 passes for 433 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025, and he has 14 catches for 222 yards and one touchdown in the first three games of 2026.
This pick makes a ton of sense. If the Panthers want to keep Young, giving him a better supporting cast is crucial. Coker, McMillan, and Green would form the most exciting pass-catching trio the Panthers have had in a very long time.
