No college football program or head coach has led the way for NFL players to return to college quite like LSU and Lane Kiffin. So it really shouldn’t be much of a surprise that he wasn’t looking to apologize for it.
Kiffin was a guest of Pat McAfee on ESPN’s College GameDay today and he dismissed the litany of criticisms he’s received for his recruitment of players who made it to NFL rosters but were released during final cutdowns. He chalked it up to a by-product of “doing great things.”
“A lot of times to do great things, you’re going to be hated,” Kiffin said.
Fans told Kiffin he’s full of it.
It really shouldn’t be any surprise at all that college football fans lambasted Kiffin for his statement:
“What great things? Kiffin saying this is a huge rationalization of what he has done and he knows it. All he has done is he has gotten these players a larger paycheck. And they don’t even have to play,” one user said dismissively.
“Lane is has been and always will be a disgusting human being who is only focused on himself no matter the consequences everywhere he goes he stirs up drama all in the name of lane Kiffin. He is definitely being true to himself. That’s the way he always has been,” another wrote.
“Does Kiffin not realize he cause the outside noise? What a clown,” wrote a third.
“Lane is an absolute narcissist and compulsive liar and always disingenuous.”
“What an insufferable, arrogant charlatan.”
“Can’t win the NC with College players so now he wants pro players in college football.”

The good news is that the several NFL players that Kiffin recruited to his team are not going to play against the Clemson Tigers in tonight’s game. But Kiffin is pretty much keeping roster spots warm for them to be added either once all of the court procedures are done or the heat simply dies down.
In any event, Kiffin will likely go down in history as the man who changed college football.
