New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet will forever be a hero in New York City for his role in lifting the team to its first NBA title in over 50 years. But as he prepares for his third season with the team, he’s enjoying a fun little side gig.
According to the New York Post via Front Office Sports, Shamet has been working as a photographer at the US Open. It’s the third straight year that the Knicks guard has been courtside taking photos of the tennis Grand Slam.
“Months after winning the NBA Finals and signing a $24 million contract, Landry Shamet is photographing the US Open. The Knicks player has worked as an unpaid photographer at the tournament the last two years and is back again for a third,” FOS shared on X.
Fans had jokes.
Some fans mused that Shamet might have only taken the role to save money since tickets are so expensive and New York taxes are so high:
“He smart – he don’t gotta pay for tickets,” one user wrote on X.
“NY taxes hit so hard, Landry got a side hustle,” wrote another.
“NYC really said: congratulations on winning the NBA Finals and signing a $24 million contract. Now go get a second job because rent is due. But also…this is the affordability crisis in a nutshell. If a NBA player is out here collecting side jobs, what are we supposed to do?” a third mused.

Shamet played in 51 regular season games for the Knicks last year, starting 12 and averaging 9.3 points per game. In the playoffs, he appeared in all 19 games, averaging 6.0 points per game.
In the NBA Finals, he contributed in a big way to the Knicks winning Games 1 and 2, contributing 13 points in both of their wins as they took down the San Antonio Spurs on the road, winning those games by a combined 11 points.
