In his second NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny James has continued to split time between the NBA and the G League as he works to establish himself in head coach JJ Redick’s rotation. The 21-year-old guard has appeared in 29 games this season, receiving slightly more opportunity than he did as a rookie but still operating primarily in a developmental role.
James is averaging 2.2 points and 1.2 assists in 7.3 minutes per game with Los Angeles, numbers that reflect his limited usage on the team’s veteran-heavy backcourt led by Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
His role has largely remained situational. Minutes have come in select stretches, often when games are decided or when depth is needed.

James delivered one of his stronger performances of the year before the All-Star break. Playing 25 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs, he went 5-for-10 from the field and knocked down both of his 3-point attempts on the way to 12 points and added six assists and three rebounds.
However, James was limited to just two minutes on the floor against the Dallas Mavericks as the Lakers earned a 124-104 win at home.
On Thursday, the team announced that Bronny James and forward Adou Thiero have again been reassigned to the South Bay Lakers ahead of Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The organization’s approach has remained consistent: provide James, the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, with extended minutes in the G League while allowing him to gain experience at the NBA level when opportunities arise. For now, the reassignment offers another stretch of meaningful playing time as he continues his development within the Lakers’ system.
The Lakers enter their upcoming matchup sitting fifth in the Western Conference at 33-21. Los Angeles is 1.5 games behind the third-seeded Denver Nuggets with 28 games remaining. Los Angeles hosts the Clippers at 10 p.m. ET Friday.
