Ladd McConkey’s return to the Los Angeles Chargers lineup lasted less than a half after the wide receiver suffered a head injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. McConkey missed last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos with a foot injury but returned for the Week 6 divisional matchup at Arrowhead Stadium.
The third-year receiver had an opportunity to help quarterback Justin Herbert against an undefeated Kansas City defense. However, his afternoon was cut short after a concerning collision in the second quarter.

McConkey has been ruled out of the Chiefs-Chargers game with a concussion after sustaining a head injury in the second quarter.
The injury occurred on his first reception of the game. Herbert connected with McConkey on a pass, but the receiver was tackled by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton and cornerback Noel Williams. McConkey took a hit during the play and appeared to be shaken up, prompting medical personnel to evaluate him for a potential concussion.
He subsequently left the game and was assessed by the medical staff before the Chargers ruled him out. McConkey finished with 17 receiving yards, leaving Los Angeles without one of its primary targets as it tried to mount a comeback.
McConkey had worked his way back from the foot injury that kept him out against Denver. He had been cleared to play after participating fully in Friday’s practice.
His absence puts more responsibility on the remaining receivers to help Herbert move the ball against Kansas City. With Tre’ Harris already sidelined by a hamstring injury, the Chargers have fewer options at wide receiver as they attempt to overcome their early deficit.
