While he may not be a Michigan alum like Jim Harbaugh, Wolverines head football coach Kyle Whittingham has sought to make his mark on the team from Week 1. To that end, he’s starting a new tradition.
Video from Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor shows members of the team coming off the bus in front of a roaring crowd to enter the stadium for today’s game against Western Michigan. Whittingham reportedly calls it “The Wolverine Walk.”
Michigan is far from the first school to try such a tradition. Notably, Big Ten rivals Michigan State and Nebraska have also done a similar walk to their stadium in front of crowd.
Some fans of those teams weren’t exactly happy to see the Wolverines copying them:
“Stealing Nebraska flow I see,” one user wrote on X.
“Always gotta copy big bro,” a Michigan State fan replied.
“Cute new tradition, may I ask where you guys would get such a good idea?” another Spartans fan asked.

Whittingham’s Debut
Whittingham joined Michigan in December after the team was abruptly pushed into a coaching search following the dismissal of Sherrone Moore. The longtime coach at Utah head coach went 177-88 in 21 seasons for the Utes and won numerous accolades while he was part of the team.
At 66 years of age, he ranks among the oldest head football coaches that Michigan has ever hired, but his experience should more than make up for it if he can push the Wolverines back to the top of the Big Ten.
