Kyle Whittingham became the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines late last year, watching on as his team suffered a 41-27 Citrus Bowl loss to Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. Whittingham joined Michigan in late December following Sherrone Moore’s departure, getting fired for an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Despite Moore’s dismissal, Whittingham has been able to retain Michigan’s starting quarterback, Bryce Underwood. The true freshman finished the season completing 202-of-335 passes for 2,428 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions, while adding six scores on the ground.
However, with several new quarterbacks arriving, including two in the 2026 recruiting class, Whittingham and Michigan have now lost a top prospect at the position.

Peter Borque, a 6-foot-4 quarterback out of Tabor Academy (Marion, Massachusetts), is a four-star prospect in the class of 2027 (247Sports). He ranks as the 86th-best player in his class, along with the eighth-best quarterback and the top recruit from his state.
After receiving various offers from major college football programs, Borque committed to Michigan on August 11, when Moore was still with the team. Since then, the quarterback has received three more offers, including from the Penn State Nittany Lions, Virginia Tech Hokies and Washington Huskies.
And less than a month after receiving his offer from Washington (Jan. 28), Borque has now decommitted from Michigan, leaving Whittingham without a top future prospect.

Whittingham will open his first full season with Michigan on Sept. 5, hosting the Western Michigan Broncos.
