San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk is piling on the controversy surrounding Buffalo Bills defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Monday.
Gardner-Johnson was ejected from his team’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Gardner-Johnson was ejected for spitting on a Raiders player.
“I want to take a moment to address my actions and sincerely apologize to my opponent, my teammates, my organization, and everyone who supports me,” Gardner-Johnson said postgame.
“My passing and competitive nature have always been a huge part of who I am, but I also understand that there is a line that should never be crossed,” Gardner-Johnson adds. “The gesture I made toward my opponent was inappropriate, unnecessary, and not a reflection of the respect I have for him or this game.
“There is no excuse for my actions, and I take full accountability. No matter how emotional or intence the competition gets, I have to hold myself to a higher standard.”

But Gardner-Johnson is now facing a possible suspension.
“Will he be suspended for another full game? Will the league fashion an NCAA-style targeting punishment that keeps him out for the first half of the Bills’ next game?” Mike Florio wondered.
“Because Buffalo has a Week 7 bye, the clock isn’t ticking as loudly as it ordinarily would be. Still, the league has a decision to make given the new precedent that was set in 2025, when the punishment for spitting morphed from a fine into a suspension. And Gardner-Johnson presents the first example of a player who missed roughly half of a game after being ejected.”
49ers star calls out CJ, too
The veteran 49ers star claims that Gardner-Johnson spat on him during a game last season, too.
He wrote: “This is the least surprising thing ever. @CGJXXIII spit on me last year when we beat Chicago.”
If the Bills defensive back has been doing it repeatedly, he should face a serious suspension.
