The Konnor Griffin era for the Pittsburgh Pirates will begin this Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
Griffin, the No. 9 overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft, represented the Pirates in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game. Although he wasn't called up to the big leagues, he finished last year with a .333 batting average, 21 home runs, 94 RBI and 65 stolen bases.
The Pirates confirmed this Thursday that Griffin has been called up for their 2026 home opener against the Orioles. They posted a video of the talented shortstop on social media along with the caption: "Opening Debut."
As you'd imagine, Pirates fans are amped up about Griffin's debut. They can't wait to see what the No. 1 prospect does on the big stage.
Griffin's wife, Dendy, has to be thrilled about this news. Before the Pirates even called him up to the main roster, she posted this message on Instagram: "DIBBS ON 75!!!!!!"
Konnor and Dendy reportedly started dating back in 2020. They announced their engagement in October 2025 before tying the knot three months later.
"The best day of our lives," they wrote on Instagram. "Thank you Lord for this love."
Konnor Griffin's future is bright.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Pittsburgh was deep into negotiations with Griffin. He could receive something similar to the eight-year, $111 million deal that Corbin Carroll signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks three years ago.
According to Buster Olney, the Pirates might have to ultimately settle for an eight-year, $130 million contract with Griffin.
Regardless, it's pretty confident the Pirates have a ton of confidence in Griffin's abilities on the diamond.
