New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson didn't emerge from his NBA Finals victory unscathed after all and apparently needs surgery.
According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Brunson is set to undergo surgery on his left wrist this week. He will reportedly return to basketball activities "later this summer."
"New York Knicks Finals MVP Jalen Brunson is undergoing surgery on his left wrist and is expected to return to basketball activities later this summer, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote.
Time for Rest
It's not clear how long Brunson has had the injury, but he definitely played the entirety of the 2026 NBA Finals with it. Brunson has been visibly wearing a sleeve on his left arm for a while now.
That didn't stop him from putting up some scintillating performances for the Knicks, including his now-legendary 45-point game against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 to seal the title win.
Knicks fans were more than happy to give Brunson all of the rest he wants given what he's done for their team and city. Some are delighted by the news, which affirms that Brunson's NBA title run was all the more impressive:

"He did all that with an impaired shooting wrist? What a guy. Speedy recovery, cap," wrote another.

As long as Brunson is good to go when the 2026-27 NBA season resumes in the fall, everything is going to be just fine.
