Kiyan Anthony has been following his father’s path as he continues his career in college basketball. He joined Syracuse just as Carmelo Anthony did back in the early 2000s, but the season didn’t end the way Kiyan had hoped. Nonetheless, the teenager now has a decision to make about his future with the Orange.
Kiyan’s freshman season with Syracuse was impressive on a personal note. He averaged 8 points per game and delivered some strong performances. However, the Orange failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament and suffered 17 losses last season, leaving many wondering whether Kiyan would return to the program in New York.
The 19-year-old finally announced his decision. “I’m Back,” his Instagram post read as he wore his Syracuse jersey. The decision comes after the program announced a major coaching change. Adrian Autry, who had been with Syracuse since 2023, was let go a few weeks ago.
The program then announced Gerry McNamara as the new head coach. This could be a key factor in Kiyan’s decision to return to the Orange. McNamara was teammates with Carmelo when Syracuse won the NCAA Championship in 2003. Now, decades later, Kiyan has a chance to create his own chapter in that same uniform.
While the challenge may be tough, Carmelo’s son appears ready to embrace it as he looks to replicate his father’s legacy.
