Kirk Herbstreit may be an Ohio State Buckeye at heart, but he's a dad first and happily sets his fandom aside to support his son Chase.
Chase Herbstreit is coming off his first season with the Michigan Wolverines, where he spent the entirety of it as the scout team quarterback. But he clearly impressed everyone while he was on the practice field because he got a big honor from the program today.
On Friday, Kirk Herbstreit shared a graphic that showed his son being named Co-Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year for 2025 (WR Logan Forbes was the co-winner). In response, Herbstreit took to X to congratulate his son.
"Congratulations on a great 1st year Chase!! So proud of your commitment to your team and your passion to develop and get better! Like we say “just keep stackin days” Keep grindin!" Herbstreit wrote on X.
The Herbstreit Family
Chase Herbstreit might not have gotten an opportunity to play at Michigan this year, but the door is still open for him. He was a three-star prospect coming out of high school and is clearly making a good impression on the coaching staff.
Chase is the fourth and youngest of Herbstreit's sons, all of whom went into college football. His brothers Jake and Zak played for the Ohio State Buckeyes, while his brother Tye was a walk-on at Clemson.

Kirk Herbstreit was himself a starting quarterback at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to the Citrus Bowl in the 1992 season after going 8-2-1 in the regular season. A few years after graduating he went into broadcasting with ESPN and has been there ever since.
Now if Chase can only get some playing time with the Wolverines, maybe he'll find himself being forced to actively root for the arch-nemesis of the team that gave him his own big break.
