ESPN college football announcer Kirk Herbstreit isn't having it when it comes to criticism of his beloved dog, Peter.
Herbstreit, who played quarterback at Ohio State, has been broadcasting for ESPN for more than 20 years. Herbstreit, who added a "Thursday Night Football" gig with Amazon Prime a couple of years ago, is a very busy man during the fall. He travels to an NFL game, a "College GameDay" location and often another college football game location.
Traveling that much can be lonely, so Herbstreit decided to start bringing one of his golden retrievers on the road with him. He started with his oldest, Ben, before his passing. When Ben passed, Herbstreit started bringing his youngest, Peter, on the road with him.

While most people seem to love Peter, there's a small, loud crowd that is annoyed by his constant presence.
Herbstreit isn't having it, though.
The ESPN college football announcer clapped back at Peter's critics on social media on Monday.
Herbstreit responds to dog's critics
One fan wrote at Kirk on Monday: "Your dog is annoying."
Another added: "The dog is fine. Kirk shoving him down our throats to protect himself from criticism is annoying."
But Herbstreit isn't having it.
The ESPN college football reporter bluntly responded to the critics of his dog on Monday morning.
"Thanks for the kind note," he said sarcastically. "Have a great week!"
ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky added: "He's a good pup."
You can say what you want about Herbstreit, but he's always going to defend his golden retrievers.
