Saturday’s season premier of ESPN’s “College GameDay” will mark the 500th episode of the long-running college football pregame show. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has been a part of nearly all of them and was just as amazed as the rest of us by that fact.
On Thursday, ESPN shared detailed info about the show, which will be in Baton Rouge for the big LSU vs. Clemson game. The post highlighted the fact that it’ll be the 500th road show.
Herbstreit took to X shortly afterwards and posted a “shocked” emoji to express just how impressed he is at the longevity of the show.
30 Years of Fun
Fans on X suggested that Herbstreit enjoy it as much as he can:
“Time flies when you’re having fun!!! Keep rocking it on Saturday mornings!!” one user replied to him on X.
“Have fun! I can’t wait to from home for the third yr in a row!” wrote another.
“LFG!!!!!!!! Nothing like college game day in the fall,” a third wrote.
“Please do yourself a favor and hit up Mansur’s on the blvd for a meal before you leave sir.”

Herbstreit joined “GameDay” in 1996 and has been one of the faces of the show for decades. Those 30 years included hundreds of “Headgear Selections” with former analyst and longtime friend Lee Corso.
“GameDay” looks very different now from back then though. Corso’s seat is now filled by Nick Saban while Pat McAfee sits at the center of the table.
But the show continues to be one of the biggest pregame shows not only in college football but in American sports. Short of something truly crazy happening, there’s going to be hundreds more shows for Herbstreit to be a part of in the years to come.
