All eyes are on Kinley Rasmus this Wednesday as Alabama faces Washington in the opening round of the Little League Baseball World Series.
Kinley, the niece of former MLB outfielder Colby Rasmus, has been named the starting pitcher for Alabama’s baseball team this afternoon in Williamsport. She’s just the 25th girl to compete in the Little League Baseball World Series.
Prior to throwing out the first pitch, Rasmus shared her initial thoughts on being part of such an exclusive club.
“It’s so amazing,” Rasmus told ESPN’s Jess Sims. “The opportunity is so great. It’s going to be such a blast, and I’m just ready to play.”
Baseball is in Kinley’s blood.
While most baseball fans are familiar with Kinley’s uncle, it’s worth nothing that her father, Cory, pitched for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels. He finished his MLB career with a 4.17 ERA, 121 strikeouts and 4-5 record.
Before becoming a pro, Cory Rasmus helped Phenix City advance to the Little League World Series in 1999.
“I just always hear my dad talking about [Williamsport] and how much fun he had, and I just want to do the same thing,” Kinley said.
We have no doubt Kinley is making her loved ones proud this week.
