Russell Westbrook has been out of action for the Sacramento Kings for the past two games. The former NBA Most Valuable Player has been sidelined by a foot injury, which is an issue he has been dealing with for an extended period.
Westbrook has played 64 games for the Kings this season, starting 58 of them. He’s averaging 15.2 points on 42.7% shooting, 5.4 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 29.0 minutes per contest. The two-time NBA scoring champion is also knocking down a career-high 2.0 triples on a 33.8% clip.
The bad news for the Kings is that Westbrook will miss additional time with his foot problem.

The Kings currently have a 19-54 record and have officially been eliminated from NBA playoff contention. This only means that they have nothing left to play for, giving them more motivation to take a cautious approach to Westbrook’s health.
The Kings shared an update on the 37-year-old’s injury status on Tuesday. The team announced that Westbrook underwent MRI imaging on his foot, per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears. The nine-time All-Star is dealing with irritation in the joint of the first toe of his right foot.
The Kings have not provided a timetable for Westbrook’s return. For now, the plan is to have him listed as out until further notice.
Sacramento has nine games left in the regular season. Westbrook has officially been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Orlando Magic. At this point, it would not be a complete surprise if the Kings eventually decide to shut him down for the rest of the year.
