Kiké Hernandez Injury: Dave Roberts Shares Update on Dodgers Utility Man
The Los Angeles Dodgers will remain without Kiké Hernández through the All-Star break after manager Dave Roberts ruled out an earlier return. The update delays the return of one of the club's most versatile players.
Hernández has filled nearly every position during his career and has been an important part of three World Series championship teams with Los Angeles. His continued absence leaves the Dodgers without one of their most experienced utility options heading into the second half.
Roberts said Hernández is continuing his recovery from the significant left oblique strain that sidelined him shortly after his return. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register shared the latest update.
Roberts confirmed Hernández is not expected to return before the All-Star break as he continues recovering from his left oblique strain. He added that catcher Will Smith is also unlikely to return before the break.
The 34-year-old underwent offseason elbow surgery before returning in late May. He played only two games before suffering an oblique injury while running the bases, sending him back to the injured list.
Hernández originally joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 before returning for a second stint in 2023. His ability to play multiple infield and outfield positions has made him one of the club's most valuable depth pieces.

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Thursday with a 56-31 record and remained atop the National League West. Alex Freeland and other infield options have helped cover Hernández's absence.
The Dodgers continue taking a cautious approach with Hernández's recovery rather than rushing him back. The organization hopes to have one of its most versatile veterans available during the second half and another postseason push.
