Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice participated in 11-on-11 drills for the first time in training camp Wednesday. He has played in just 12 games the last two seasons due to injury and disciplinary actions. It was a tumultuous offseason for Rice, who had cleanup surgery on his troublesome knee following the season.
After the operation, he was forced to spend 30 days in jail for a failed drug test, which was a violation of his probation for charges stemming from a high-speed car accident in 2024. That case forced him to miss six games in 2025 for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
This is a pivotal offseason for Rice, who's entering the final year of his rookie contract. Since he was drafted in the second round, the team doesn't have the opportunity to pick up a fifth-year option on him.
For Rice, he's seeing his wide-receiver fraternity cash in this offseason. The Seattle Seahawks paid WR Jaxon-Smith Njigba $168.6 million over four years. The Atlanta Falcons locked up WR Drake London for four years at $141.054 million. The Baltimore Ravens just locked up WR Zay Flowers to a four-year, $140 million deal.
Rice isn't in that ballpark yet, but a comeback season in 2026 would possibly set up a bridge deal to get him to that lucrative company. Either way, both he and the team need Rice to return to his rookie form when he caught 79 balls for 938 yards and seven scores.
