Kevin Garnett's Jersey Retirement Date Revealed After Timberwolves Schedule Release: Report

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2026-27 NBA schedule was released Thursday, giving fans their first full look at the upcoming season, which features many key matchups.

Of course, the Timberwolves made multiple major moves in the offseason as they traded Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets and acquired LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets to pair alongside Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert.

Because of this, Minnesota is expected to be a contender in the Western Conference this season, with the team set to begin their campaign on the road against the Miami Heat on Oct. 21.

While the Timberwolves do have multiple key dates throughout the season, one has emerged above the rest after a report was released Thursday.

Timberwolves to Retire Kevin Garnett's Jersey During Celtics Matchup

According to Timberwolves reporter Dane Moore, Minnesota is set to retire Kevin Garnett’s jersey at Target Center on Feb. 28 when the Timberwolves host the Boston Celtics.

This is a massive report by Moore and one that has been a long time coming for Timberwolves fans, as well as a well-earned honor for the Hall of Fame big man.

Of course, Minnesota selected Garnett fifth overall in the 1995 NBA Draft where he then spent the first 12 seasons of his career, being named an All-Star 10 times and also winning the MVP award in 2004.

After his 12th season with the Timberwolves, they traded him to the Boston Celtics in 2007 where he would spend the next six years of his career, winning the Defensive Player of the Year award and helping lead the Celtics to a championship in 2008.

Boston then traded Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets in 2013 and he would eventually be sent from Brooklyn to Minnesota in 2015 where he would spend the final two years of his NBA career.

During his 14 seasons with the Timberwolves, the Hall of Fame big man averaged 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 49.1% from the field and 28.8% from three.

After retiring in 2016, Garnett would then be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Celtics retired his jersey in 2022, though the Timberwolves had waited to do so due to a strained relationship between him and former owner Glen Taylor.

Now with a change in ownership under Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, it appears as though the Timberwolves will honor one of their franchise greats this season when they face off against the Celtics at home on Feb. 28 in a matchup between two of Garnett’s former squads as they will raise the Hall of Fame forward's No. 21 jersey into the rafters.
