Shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs learned of Travis Kelce's expected return for a 14th year, the franchise landed the top available free-agent running back in Kenneth Walker III. The Seattle Seahawks weren't keen on paying his asking price, and their Super Bowl standout will find a fresh start in KC.
The Chiefs, when healthy, have one of the most stable offenses in football. However, there is uncertainty heading into this offseason with the most glaring issue being the recovery of quarterback Patrick Mahomes after last December's torn ACL, which usually is a nine-plus-month recovery.
Another key factor will be the offensive line staying healthy and then playing up to expectations. There's also a concern because Kelce will be 37 years old in October, which amplifies injury potential.
Walker split time with Zach Charbonnet in Seattle until the latter blew out his knee in the playoffs. The Michigan State star broke out as the season came to a close and was the aforementioned Super Bowl MVP, which he parlayed into this opportunity.
Kenneth Walker III 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook
Small injuries have been a factor in KW3's NFL tenure, and he's a violent runner, which opens him to potentially missing time. Walker turns 26 in October, and he should be heavily relied on, particularly during the first half of the year as Mahomes works his way back. Andy Reid rehired Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, which should help get the ground game back on track.
Assuming Mahomes indeed opens the year on the field and the offensive line bounces back, this should be Walker's finest fantasy season to date. Despite how strongly he finished 2025, the veteran managed only 11.3 PPR points per game on the year, which was the fewest of his career. He was considerably more efficient than his first two years, removing 2024's injury-marred season from the equation.
The 22nd running back in reception-rewarding fantasy formats last year, Walker has a real chance to sneak into the top dozen or so backs in 2026.
