The Indiana Fever may have to prepare for life without Kelsey Mitchell.
Mitchell, the No. 2 pick from the 2018 WNBA Draft, has spent every season of her career with the Fever. The All-Star guard took her game to new heights this year, averaging a career-high 24.7 points per contest while making 50.9% of her attempts the field. Her success couldn’t come at a better time as she’s set to be an unrestricted free agent.
While the Fever would love to retain Mitchell in free agency, there’s a chance she doesn’t return for the 2027 season.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, there are teams around the league that would want to build around Mitchell. That could certainly lead to her leaving the Fever.
If another team offers Mitchell the chance to be the unquestioned No. 1 option, she may choose that over sharing the spotlight with Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark.

What does Kelsey Mitchell have to say about her future?
Following the Fever’s season-ending loss to the Aces, Mitchell told reporters she’d be “selfish” about her free agency decision. However, she spoke fondly about her fit in Indiana.
“I have to be selfish. I think that’s where I am in my career … what I probably need and what’s probably best for me. So I have to be selfish in that room,” Mitchell said, via ESPN. “But I think, ultimately, being on the Fever and being a part of an organization that does come with a lot of ups and downs, what factors in and what is important for me is, obviously, having a good chemistry on and off the floor. I’ve only been with one team my entire career, so it’s all kind of like figuring this out. It’s hard, man
We know for certain that Mitchell will get paid this offseason. We’re just not sure who’ll win the sweepstakes.
