The Indiana Fever have spent the early part of the 2026 WNBA season generating headlines for everything from explosive offense to rising championship expectations. On Wednesday, night against the Portland Fire, another major moment was added to that growing list when veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell etched her name even deeper into league history.
Coming into the game, Mitchell sat at 4,907 career points, putting her within striking distance of another significant WNBA scoring milestone. The longtime Fever star has quietly built one of the most productive offensive careers in league history, even while often playing outside the national spotlight during Indiana’s rebuilding years.
Now, with the Fever emerging as one of the league’s marquee teams behind Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, the veteran guard’s accomplishments are receiving far more attention.
Kelsey Mitchell Continues Climbing WNBA Scoring List
Mitchell entered Wednesday ranked 32nd on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list, according to Across The Timeline’s database tracking league milestones. Her 4,907 career points already placed her among some of the greatest scorers the league has ever seen.
Mitchell finished the Fire game with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting, along with two rebounds and four assists. This performance brought her total career points to 4,928, surpassing Golden State Valkyries guard Tiffany Hayes.
What makes Mitchell’s rise especially impressive is the speed at which she reached those numbers. She achieved the feat in just 282 career games, significantly fewer than many legends surrounding her on the all-time list.
Several all-time greats, including Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings and Diana Taurasi needed far more games to accumulate similar career totals because of their different styles of play and roles within their teams. Mitchell, meanwhile, has consistently been one of the WNBA’s purest scorers since entering the league as the No. 2 overall pick in 2018.
Her scoring ability has also helped transform Indiana’s offense into one of the most dangerous units in the WNBA this season.
Fever Veteran Still Central to Indiana’s Rise
While much of the national attention surrounding Indiana understandably centers on Clark and Boston, Mitchell remains one of the franchise’s foundational players. Her ability to score at all three levels continues to create space for the Fever offense and gives Indiana another proven late-game option.
That balance has become critical as the Fever attempt to establish themselves as legitimate championship contenders instead of simply a young team on the rise.
Wednesday's historic moment against Portland served as another reminder that Mitchell’s impact on the franchise extends well beyond the box score, steadily building a resume that places her among some of the greatest offensive players in WNBA history.
