Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever are currently taking a break from WNBA action as the world’s best compete for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Indiana is sitting at No. 5 overall in the WNBA standings at 26-14, due in large part to the play of Mitchell.
The 5-foot-8 guard is second in the league in scoring at 25.0 points per game, only trailing four-time MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces and her 26.0. The former No. 2 overall pick in the first round of the 2018 WNBA Draft is third in the league at 3.0 three-pointers made per game on a league-leading 45.5% from behind the arc.

The Ohio native has been recognized for her play all season, winning the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week award for Week 8 and winning Player of the Month for August 2026. Recently, Indiana has decided to promote a new nickname for its star guard.
On Tuesday, on the social media website Instagram, the Fever posted a graphic advocating for Kelz to win the MVP award. The graphic says “Kelsey Mitchell for MVP” in the top half, with her per-game averages in the bottom quadrant, each accompanied by pictures. In the caption, Indiana promoted the new nickname “MVP Kelz.”
The Fever wrote about how Mitchell broke the record for scoring 20-plus points in 24 consecutive games and became the second player in WNBA history to score 1,000-plus points in a single season.

Indiana will return to action on Friday, Sept. 18, as it faces the Toronto Tempo at the Coca-Cola Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. ET.
