AthlonSports.com's NFL Writer and Analyst Doug Farrar highlighted what he saw from Kansas City Chiefs WR Cyrus Allen, and he believes it's more than just some preseason hype.
The Chiefs took Cincinnati WR Cyrus Allen in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Pete Sweeney, from the Kansas City Star, tweeted that Allen has undoubtedly been QB Patrick Mahomes' favorite target, and it feels like Mahomes is looking his way each time he's out there.
Farrar was impressed with his mastery of the position for a draft prospect. In his final season with the Cincinnati Bearcats, the 5-foot-11 Allen caught 51 passes for 674 yards and 13 touchdowns. Nine of those catches came on passes of 20 or more air yards for 356 yards and six scores. The more you watch Allen, the more it’s clear that he gets the idea of what modern receivers need to do, according to Farrar.
Over the weekend, Allen provided a scare when was carted off at practice with a left leg injury. It was deemed minor and categorized as a bruised shin. Head coach Andy Reid said he expects Allen back in a day or two. With WR Rashee Rice working his way back from knee surgery, and WR Xavier Worthy also banged up over the weekend, Allen has a window to continue his ascent up the depth chart.
“He’s done a nice job,” Reid said of Allen. “The quarterback trusts him."
