Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid guided Patrick Mahomes and his team to a dominant 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos, the franchise expected to be their biggest rival this season after winning the AFC West division last campaign.
Mahomes, who made his long-awaited return after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee last season, recorded 184 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-27 pass completion. He also rushed for one TD, finishing with seven carries for 23 yards.
Newcomer Kenneth Walker III impressed as well, with the star running back tallying 173 rushing yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. He also had three receptions for 18 yards and a TD score.
Travis Kelce, for his part, made history after he surpassed Jason Witten for the second-most receiving yards ever by a tight end. He finished with three catches for 71 yards.

It wasn’t only Kelce who achieved a milestone in the game, though. Reid also reached a new mark in his coaching career, as he won his 150th game with the Chiefs.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt announced the development in the Chiefs’ locker room following the game, during which he presented a game ball to the veteran head coach. Hunt also revealed that GM Brett Veach reached his 200th NFL win.
“There are a lot of guys in here who deserve a game ball today, but two very special people are celebrating milestones,” Hunt stated. “Andy Reid, your 150th regular season win with the Chiefs. And it’s Brett Veach’s 200th win in the NFL.”
Hunt’s announcement drew applause from Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs.
Sure enough, the Chiefs’ latest victory highlighted the system Reid has built to help the team succeed.
There are massive expectations on the Chiefs after a disastrous 2025 campaign that saw them fail to make the playoffs for the first time in the Mahomes era. Based on their performance in Week 1, though, it looks like Reid has his team ready to bounce back.
