Kai Trump’s college golf career could not have gotten off to a much worse start.
The 19-year-old freshman at the University of Miami suffered a troubling injury during the first tournament of her college career. Trump, who underwent a wrist operation last year, re-injured her wrist at the Golfweek Fall Challenge earlier this month. The injury occurred early in the competition, when Trump accidentally hit some concrete during a swing.
Trump was “shocked” by the injury.
“Let’s just say there must have been some cart path underneath that ground because it was very hard. Hit it, it felt like a shock on my arm,” Trump said in an emotional video shared to Instagram.
The injury got worse as the tournament continued.
“Then on the tenth hole, I hit my driver, and I felt like I tore it again,” she said.
Kai Trump is hoping to not miss much time. In an effort to rehab quickly, she’s been receiving stem cell shots from Dr. Jeffrey Weigers, a pain management specialist.
The freshman golfer has been struggling both on and off of the course, as she got pretty emotional when discussing being homesick at college.
“I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry, I’ve only cried a few times. I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks,” Trump said in a different video.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami. I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey. I would also like to thank my great team for getting me to this point. I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support. Unfortunately, her college career is not off to an ideal start.
