Kade Anderson’s final start of the 2026 season ended early Saturday, but the Seattle Mariners received encouraging news after their prized rookie was struck by a line drive.
Anderson exited in the fourth inning of Seattle’s 8-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels after a 103.8 mph comebacker from Christian Moore hit his left pitching arm. The Mariners diagnosed Anderson with a left forearm bruise.
The 22-year-old left-hander immediately grabbed his arm and initially tried to remain in the game before leaving with the Mariners’ medical staff. He had thrown 3⅓ scoreless innings with four strikeouts before the injury.
The scare came at the end of an encouraging rookie season for Anderson, who made his MLB debut on Aug. 22 after dominating at Double-A Arkansas. He went 10-1 with a 1.06 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 93⅓ innings across 18 starts before his promotion.
Anderson finished his MLB season with a 2-2 record, 3.79 ERA, 35⅔ innings and 32 strikeouts across seven starts, according to MLB’s current statistics.
The timing should limit the injury’s impact on Anderson’s immediate availability. Seattle has been eliminated from postseason contention, meaning Saturday was already his final scheduled start of the season.

Anderson’s rapid rise made him one of the most important young pieces in the Mariners’ organization. His dominant minor league performance earned him a spot among baseball’s top prospects before he reached the majors.
For now, Seattle can focus on allowing Anderson’s forearm to recover rather than worrying about another start this season. The initial diagnosis of a bruise provides a much more encouraging outcome after a line drive traveling more than 100 mph sent the rookie to the clubhouse.
