Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen admitted he was overthinking his throwing mechanics during Monday’s win over the Los Angeles Rams. After struggling to find his rhythm early, Allen simplified his approach and trusted his instincts in the second half.
“I stopped thinking about it in the second half and let it rip,” Allen said, via Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski.
Buffalo escaped with a 37-34 overtime victory, improving to 4-1. The win came despite an uneven passing performance that forced Allen to find other ways to move the offense.
Allen finished with 210 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also acknowledged that taking more underneath check-down throws earlier could have helped the Bills avoid some difficult situations.
The quarterback’s mobility became especially important as the game progressed. Allen rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, repeatedly using his legs to keep drives alive against the Rams.
His biggest contribution came in overtime. After Buffalo survived a missed Los Angeles field goal, Allen scrambled for crucial yardage to help set up Tyler Bass for the game-winning 45-yard kick.
The victory also ended Allen’s reported 0-7 record in overtime games. That breakthrough gave Buffalo another reason to celebrate, even though the quarterback knows his passing execution needs work.

Allen’s comments offer a glimpse into his adjustment process. Rather than continuing to overanalyze his mechanics, he focused on playing freely and making decisions as the game unfolded.
That approach could prove important as Buffalo prepares for its next matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Allen will look to maintain his impact on the ground while finding greater consistency through the air.
For the Bills, the win was valuable, but Allen’s self-assessment suggests there is still room to improve. If he can combine his second-half confidence with better early-game decisions, Buffalo’s offense could become even more dangerous.
