Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and the team's offense gained a pair of new pass-catching options on Thursday as Buffalo continued tweaking its roster ahead of training camp.
The Bills announced the signings of wide receivers Deven Thompkins and Max Tomczak, adding both NFL experience and developmental upside to the position group. While neither player is guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster, both will have an opportunity to make an impression during offseason workouts and camp.
For a Buffalo team with Super Bowl aspirations entering the 2026 season, every roster move matters as the organization looks to build the strongest possible supporting cast around Allen and one of the NFL's most explosive offenses.
Bills Add Veteran NFL Experience
Thompkins arrives in Buffalo with NFL experience after spending time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons organizations.
The former Utah State standout enjoyed a breakout college season in 2021 when he recorded 102 receptions for 1,704 yards and 10 touchdowns. That performance earned him First-Team All-Mountain West honors and Third-Team All-American recognition.
Since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Thompkins has appeared in games for both Tampa Bay and Carolina. In addition to his work as a receiver, he has provided value as a return specialist, compiling more than 1,300 career return yards.
Across his NFL career, Thompkins has totaled 29 receptions for 162 yards and one touchdown while showcasing the speed and explosiveness that made him one of the most productive receivers in college football during his final season at Utah State.
Familiar Face Returns To Buffalo
Tomczak's signing marks a return to the organization after a brief departure earlier this offseason.
The former Youngstown State receiver originally joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft before being released in late May. Less than two weeks later, Buffalo decided to bring him back for another opportunity.
Tomczak finished his college career as one of the most productive receivers in the Football Championship Subdivision. He earned First-Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors in both 2024 and 2025 and surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark during his final collegiate season.
The Illinois native caught 70 passes for 1,021 yards and eight touchdowns in 2025. He also comes from a football family, as his uncle, former NFL quarterback Mike Tomczak, enjoyed a 15-year professional career.
Competition Continues Ahead of Training Camp
The Bills also announced that rookie cornerback Dorian Strong was waived with a non-football injury designation, while running back Desmond Reid was waived/injured.
As Buffalo continues preparing for another season with Allen under center, the organization is searching for contributors throughout the roster. Thompkins brings proven NFL and special teams experience, while Tomczak offers developmental potential after a highly productive college career.
Neither signing is likely to generate major headlines across the league, but these are the types of moves that often shape the back end of NFL rosters. Both receivers will now have a chance to earn a role and prove they belong as the Bills move closer to training camp and the start of the 2026 season.
