New York Metsdesignated hitter Jorge Polanco has not appeared in a game since April 14, while dealing with an Achilles and wrist injury. It hasn't been an ideal start to his tenure with the Mets after signing a two-year, $40 million contract this past offseason. He has appeared in just 14 of the team's 56 games.
On Wednesday, the Mets announced that Polanco began his rehab assignment with the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Currently sitting on the 10-day injured list, MLB.com noted that his expected return date is sometime in June. With New York beginning its final series of May against the Miami Marlins on Friday, he could be back soon.

However, when speaking to reporters, the designated hitter made it clear he isn't trying to return before he feels fully healthy.
"I want to get back, but there is no rush," Polanco said in a video posted to X by SNY Mets. "I want to get back when I feel good. That way, I can help the team. I don't do anything if I just get back still feeling bad. So there is no rush, the main thing is to get better and get healthy."
On the same day Polanco began his rehab assignment, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed that the one-time All-Star will serve as a DH, but will also be ramped up at first base.
While the 32-year-old focuses on his health, New York is hoping for more production when he returns. In 14 games this season, Polanco has recorded 56 at-bats, 10 hits, three runs scored, two RBIs and one home run. He is also slashing .179/.246/.286 with a .532 OPS.
