The Philadelphia Eagles host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday with Tanner McKee at quarterback and a lot more than one game riding on the result. Philadelphia has lost three straight, to Chicago, the Rams and Jacksonville, and McKee now has to save a spiraling season with Jalen Hurts sidelined by a blood clot.
Jonathan Jones of The Athletic wrote Saturday that the 2-3 Eagles are only a few plays from 4-1, but if the losing continues, it might be prudent to trade some assets and hit a quick reset for 2027. With more than three weeks until the Nov. 10 deadline and the NFC East still tight, Jones added, there’s no rush yet.
The names that could come up
If the losses pile up, Jones expects Philadelphia’s big names to surface in trade talk whether general manager Howie Roseman wants to deal them or not. He has already heard team executives float running back Saquon Barkley and cornerback Riq Woolen.
Guard Landon Dickerson is wondering, too. Asked about his future this week, Dickerson addressed his future with a question of his own. “Is that really my decision?” Dickerson said, per LehighValleyLive. “I would very much enjoy it to stay here for my whole career.”
Hurts is part of the picture as well. The two sides didn’t renegotiate this offseason, three years after his five-year, $255 million extension, and Jones wrote that this season was viewed as critical to deciding where that relationship goes. The deal runs through 2028, per The Associated Press.
Why Carolina matters
The Panthers come in at 2-2 and rested after their bye, with a 32-26 win over Detroit in their last game. Carolina gave up 59 points to Chicago in the opener but has won two of three since. Carolina can’t let this opening slip, and a fourth straight Eagles loss would make the reset talk louder.
McKee sounds ready for it. “Somebody said pressure is a privilege, and I really think that’s true,” McKee said, via NFL.com. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field, and South Philly won’t be patient with a fourth straight loss.
