Duke men's basketball coach Jon Scheyer showed some pretty great class after his team's stunning upset loss on Sunday night.
The No. 1 overall seed Blue Devils were shocked by the No. 2 seed UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight in Washington, D.C. on Sunday evening. Duke led by as much as 19 points, only to blow it late.
UConn is off to the Final Four, while Duke is going home early. Duke is just one year removed from a shocking loss to Houston in the Final Four. Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer is getting crushed online.
But Scheyer showed pretty great class, too. He chose to speak immediately after the game to CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. Scheyer gave credit to UConn and made it clear that he was just sad for his players.
"I don't have the words for you. All I know is these guys don't deserve that ending," he said on Sunday night.
It's never easy to lose like that, though Scheyer should get credit for his postgame interview with Wolfson.
Duke will likely be back in the NCAA Tournament in 2027, once again as a top seed. But it's been a decade since Duke won the national championship - their last came in 2015.
This felt like it could be the year Duke cut down the nets again, though the Blue Devils are now going home early.
