Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer is getting another weapon just in time for the Sooners’ matchup with UTEP.
Wide receiver Parker Livingstone has been cleared to play and will be available for Oklahoma against UTEP, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Livingstone had recently missed practice time while dealing with a concussion. His clearance means he is now positioned to make his Oklahoma debut after transferring from Texas.
“Sources: Oklahoma WR Parker Livingstone has been cleared to play and will be available against UTEP tonight,” Thamel reported Friday. “He’d recently missed some practice time with a concussion, but he will make his debut for the Sooners against UTEP.”
Thamel reported Livingstone’s status on X.
It’s a timely development for Mateer and an Oklahoma offense that now gets its first opportunity to see what Livingstone can provide in a Sooners uniform.
Parker Livingstone Set for Oklahoma Debut
Livingstone’s debut comes with an intriguing storyline attached.
The wide receiver transferred to Oklahoma from Texas, adding another layer to his arrival in Norman. Now healthy enough to play, Livingstone can finally begin carving out his role in the Sooners’ offense.
His availability is particularly important for Mateer.
Quarterbacks can never have too many reliable options, and Livingstone gives Oklahoma another potential target to work into the passing game. The UTEP matchup offers an opportunity for Mateer and Livingstone to begin developing their game-day chemistry.
There could naturally be some rust after Livingstone missed practice time, and Oklahoma may choose to ease him into the offense. Simply having him available, however, is encouraging news.
John Mateer’s Supporting Cast Gets a Boost
Livingstone doesn’t need to immediately become Oklahoma’s top receiving option for his return to matter.
His presence gives the Sooners more flexibility and gives opposing defenses another player to account for. It also gives Oklahoma an opportunity to determine where Livingstone fits before the schedule moves deeper into the season.
For Livingstone, Friday represents a long-awaited fresh start.
His last game came before his transfer from Texas. His next one will come wearing an Oklahoma uniform, with Mateer potentially throwing him his first pass as a Sooner.
Oklahoma already had plenty to accomplish against UTEP. Livingstone’s debut just added another storyline worth watching.
