It's been several days since reports emerged that John Harbaugh would become the new head coach of the New York Giants but no formal announcement has been made. That's because Harbaugh hasn't signed his contract yet. However, there's no cause for alarm.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Harbaugh and the Giants are still hammering out the details of the contract. The issue is contract language as opposed to money. Schefter's source stated that there is "no derailment" and that both sides are working on getting the deal done.

"Update: Giants and John Harbaugh still are working through the details of their contract, and it is not yet done, per sources. The final issues aren’t over money; it’s over language. 'There’s no derailment and nothing has changed,' one source said. Talks continue, and the two sides are working to get it across the finish line," Schefter wrote.

Due-Diligence

NFL fans don't seem all that concerned based on Schefter's report. Many believe it makes sense given the amount of money at stake and the level of control that Harbaugh wants to have at this point in his coaching career.

"Giants really just dropped $100m over 5 years for harbaugh. $20m a year makes him one of the highest paid coaches in history before even coaching a snap in nyc. big blue is finally done being cheap and playing for real this time," one user declared.

"Harbaugh’s opt out clauses or exit plans would fall under language and not money. This is a big decision for a 63-year-old man who’s probably coming to the end of a long career. People would hope that he would want to do it right," wrote another.

"It’s over control, decision making, Giants current front office structure, Schoen He’s trying to win another Super Bowl and wants it his way and I don’t blame him + Giants should/will oblige," a third wrote.

The Giants have been trying to find sustained success for the first time since the early-2010s. Over the past 10 seasons they have just two winning seasons and playoff appearances and have suffered 10 or more losses in 10 of the last 12 seasons.

Can Harbaugh return the Giants to respectability?
