The New York Giants got a pretty big scare during today's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings as starting QB Jaxson Dart had to leave the game and go to the medical tent for a concussion evaluation after taking a hard hit on a sack.

Given how much everyone hates seeing starters suffer injuries in meaningless preseason games, Giants head coach John Harbaugh was asked to give his thoughts after the 13-10 loss. Harbaugh bluntly said that the first thing that crossed his mind was that the team "needs to block better."

“My feeling in that moment was we need to block better,” Harbaugh said.

Fortunately, it doesn't appear to have been a concussion as Harbaugh said Dart merely got the wind knocked out of him on the play. He said he was surprised that Dart needed to go to the medical tent at all, but recognized that it's good to err on the side of caution where injuries are concerned.

“Honestly, I was. I would say that their job is to err on the side of player safety, so I can’t argue with that either,” he added, per SNY.

Dart's Injury History

Concussions were a pretty big issue for Dart last year. He had to undergo no less than four concussion tests throughout the 2025 campaign, one of which earned former head coach Brian Daboll a fine when he entered the tent with Dart.

Dart is known for having more of a contact-heavy style of football. His ability to squeeze out those extra yards served him well in college and pretty well in the NFL too.

As a rookie he had 86 carries for 487 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns while throwing for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns with just five interceptions in 14 games last year.

It's going to be on Harbaugh to ensure that Dart either changes things up to match what the team needs out of him, or find some other way to mitigate the risks to Dart's style of play.
