The Dallas Cowboys are officially all-in on the 2026 season, acquiring cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Wednesday night, The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero broke the news that Porter is heading to Dallas for the rest of this season. In order to land the former Penn State star, the Cowboys had to part ways with a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
Porter, 26, hasn’t played a game this season due to a back injury. There have also been rumblings about him being unhappy with his current contract situation.

Although a long-term deal between Porter and the Cowboys isn’t imminent, it sounds like he’s excited for a fresh start.
On Thursday morning, Porter shared a photo of himself on Instagram along with this message: “Here I come……Dallas.”
Porter’s latest Instagram post also included this hilarious definition for seat belt: “the opposing receiver is locked up.” Suffice to say, he’s entering Dallas with a ton of confidence.
Much-needed upgrade for Dallas.
The Cowboys are hoping Porter will fix a defense that has given up 27.3 points per game this season.
If Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker wants Porter to thrive, he’ll need to let him get one-on-one opportunities against opposing teams’ best receivers. That could result in Parker drifting away from his usual zone coverage.
The Cowboys have not yet announced if Porter will be available for this Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
