Joe Hendry knows his musical segment with Danhausen on WWE Raw didn’t work.
Hendry addressed the negative reaction during a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, acknowledging that the segment didn’t connect with fans the way everyone involved hoped it would.
The segment featured Hendry and Danhausen performing a concert that was interrupted by The Vision. It was supposed to be another showcase for the comedy that has helped make Hendry one of WWE’s most popular personalities, but the reaction online was overwhelmingly negative.
Hendry told Van Vliet that everyone involved genuinely tried to give the audience something entertaining. He also acknowledged that taking creative risks means accepting when something doesn’t land.

Joe Hendry Still Hasn’t Recovered on WWE Raw
The bigger problem is that Hendry hasn’t really recovered from it yet.
Hendry is naturally funny. His entrance song, parody videos and ability to poke fun at his opponents were a huge part of what got him over in the first place. Lately, though, it feels like WWE is trying too hard to remind us that Joe Hendry is funny.
His current story with JD McDonagh is another example. Hendry repeatedly making fun of McDonagh’s head feels less like the clever comedy that helped make him a star and more like playground bully material.
Not every joke is going to land. Hendry understands that better than most after the Danhausen segment.
The challenge now is figuring out when to stop trying so hard to make us laugh and present Hendry as a legitimate top main event babyface.
