One of Joe Burrow's former LSU Tigers teammates has tragically died at 26 years old.
Devonta Lee, who played wide receiver at LSU from 2019-21, catching passes from the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, tragically passed away this week. He was battling cancer.
The family issued a statement on his passing.
“He was a fighter and he loved everybody. [Devonta] was a good kid [and would] do anything for anybody. He loved football [and] he gave his all in anything he did. He worked out every day [and was] a very hard, dedicated player [who] never gave up in football. [I will miss] my son.”
Lee, a former LSU Tigers wide receiver, caught 11 receptions for 112 yards and one touchdown.
LSU is deeply saddened. He ultimately transferred to Louisiana Tech, which released a statement on his passing, too.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Devonta Lee, a former Bulldog wide receiver," Louisiana Tech said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time. He will always be remembered as a member of the Bulldog family.”
His high school, Amite High School, released a statement on his passing, as well.
"He did a lot of good things on the field, and he was very respectful," Nakisha Johnson said. "He just was all around the football player that every coach would want."
