Jim Ross is still dealing with serious balance problems following brain surgery, and his latest fall happened just two nights before he recorded the newest episode of “Grilling JR.”
The WWE Hall of Famer said he lost his balance in his bedroom and crashed into a bench at the end of his bed.
“I’m doing pretty good. Healing slowly but surely, but I’m just fighting through it. I fell two nights ago in my bedroom, and I fell into my bench.”
The fall caused significant damage to the furniture. Ross explained that the bench had been placed there by his late wife, Jan, so her cat could climb onto the bed. He hit it hard enough to break it, initially hearing a cracking sound that made him worry he had injured himself.
“Jan bought a little bench that she sat at the end of our bed so that her cat could get in the bed easier, and it’s still there. But when I fell, I broke the son of a (expletive) and crashed and burned.”
Jim Ross ultimately had the bench repaired rather than replacing it because of its sentimental value.
The 74-year-old has said that moving slowly helps him stay on his feet. Turning or rushing remains much more difficult, and he has been using a walker around his home when necessary.
“My handyman came over and repaired it, so now it’s solid. That didn’t do me any favors. This falling (expletive), man—I’ve got to take my time and not get in any big hurry, especially when I change direction,” Ross said. “If I take my time and don’t get in any big hurry, especially when I change direction, I do pretty good. If I don’t take my time, I go right back to that walker. Using a walker in your own home is humbling. It’s humbling.” [H/T RSN]
His brain surgery took place on August 12 in Norman, Oklahoma. Doctors inserted a shunt designed to drain excess fluid from his brain, an issue that had been contributing to his memory and balance problems. The procedure was successful, although his recovery has not been without setbacks.

The latest incident is particularly significant because Jim Ross had hoped to travel to London for AEW All In on August 30.
Just days after his surgery, Ross remained determined to make the Wembley Stadium show. He later revealed that he was undergoing rehabilitation and physical therapy while still targeting a return to the AEW commentary desk for the event.
However, his continuing balance issues have made international travel a concern. During the same episode of “Grilling JR,” the veteran revealed that doctors warned that another fall while traveling or while in England could become a medical emergency.
“Both my brain surgeon and another doctor said, ‘You need to keep your (expletive) off the airplane because if you fall or get hurt, they’ve got to make an emergency landing, or you fall in London and you’ve got to go to a London hospital. It’s not worth the risk.'”
Ross’ AEW contract is also set to expire this month, adding another layer of uncertainty to his future behind the commentary desk. He has previously spoken about wanting to have a proper ending to his broadcasting career rather than simply disappearing from television.
For now, Ross’ priority remains much simpler – getting his balance back, avoiding another fall and continuing his recovery one step at a time.
