The New York Jets signed edge rusher Quinton Bell to their practice squad Tuesday while releasing linebacker Troy Reeder from the active roster and tight end Cody Hardy from the practice squad.
The moves come after New York picked up its second win of the season, defeating the Cleveland Browns 17-12 on Sunday. The Jets enter Week 6 at 2-3 and will face the New England Patriots, who are 3-2, in a divisional matchup.
Bell joins New York after spending time with the San Francisco 49ers. The Jets announced all three transactions on Tuesday, Oct. 13, as they adjusted their roster ahead of Sunday’s game.
Bell brings previous NFL experience to the Jets’ defensive front. The 6-foot-4 edge rusher has appeared in 33 regular-season games across four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins. He has recorded 38 tackles, one sack, one pass defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in his NFL career.
Bell most recently spent time with San Francisco, recording four defensive tackles and one special teams stop during the 2026 preseason. The Raiders selected him in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 230th overall pick after he played college football at Prairie View A&M.

Reeder’s departure ends his latest stint on New York’s active roster. The linebacker joined the Jets’ practice squad in September before signing to the active roster on Sept. 22. He dressed for four games and recorded four tackles while contributing 85 snaps on special teams, according to the team’s transaction announcement.
The 32-year-old entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. He also played for the Los Angeles Chargers and returned to the Rams before joining Detroit during the 2026 offseason. Reeder was part of the Rams team that won Super Bowl LVI.
Hardy, meanwhile, leaves the Jets’ practice squad after joining the group on Sept. 22. The tight end signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent after his final college season at NC State. He appeared in all three of New Orleans’ preseason games, catching one pass for seven yards.
The Jets will travel to face the Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 18, as they look to build on their victory over Cleveland. Bell’s addition gives New York another experienced edge option on its practice squad, while the departures of Reeder and Hardy create additional roster flexibility.
