With training camp set for late July, the New York Jets may have a tough decision to make regarding Geno Smith.
Earlier this offseason, the Jets acquired Smith in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. He had an inconsistent 2025 season, completing 67.4% of his passes for 3,025 yards with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. That being said, he sounded optimistic about his outlook in New York.
"Complete full circle moment back to where it all began," Smith told NFL Network. "I'm excited to connect with my new teammates and coaches and everyone in the building as well as build a new relationship with the fan base and community."
Unfortunately for the Jets, their reunion with Smith is off to a bumpy start. The veteran quarterback was accused of assaulting a woman who claimed to be his ex-girlfriend. A 911 call was made this Sunday Davie, Florida.
“We were informed [Monday] evening that, during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by detectives,” a police spokesperson told ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time.”

What will the Jets do?
Smith is under contract for only the 2026 season. If the Jets want to part ways with him, they'd gave to eat only $3.3 million in dead cap.
Judging by the reactions online, Jets fans want Smith gone due to the allegations surrounding him.
"The Jets know this is Geno Smith, right? Just cut the guy and move on. If he had Mahomes or Allen talent, he's innocent until proven guilty, but since he doesn't, he's not worth the headache," a fan wrote.
"Geno isn’t worth any headaches seriously just cut him," a second fan commented. "It’s not like he’s Mahomes."
"Geno Smith back with the Jets and of course the nightmare begins just cut him and play Cade [Klubnik]," another fan said.
The Jets have reportedly been in contact with the league since these allegations surfaced.
