Jerry Jones won’t be afraid to spend money if it helps the Dallas Cowboys make a meaningful in-season splash.
The Cowboys rebounded from a Week 1 loss to the New York Giants with a 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. After Sunday’s victory, Jones raised eyebrows by making an interesting comment to reporters inside the stadium tunnel.
“There is nothing more dangerous than an old man with money,” Jones said.
Jones clarified his remark during Tuesday’s radio interview on 105.3 The Fan.
“I said it out of context, but I’m glad I said it. We were just really feeling so good about our win that we were feeling our oats,” Jones said. “The point is, we say this just right, don’t tamper. My point is, it’s good. We have the makings of a team here that I’m that optimistic about. I’d work to improve it in a minute financially.”
The Cowboys owner and general manager confirmed that his “dangerous” line was “very much” about football.
“I wouldn’t, under no circumstance, with that audience, be referring to anything other than a football context,” Jones said.
The opportunity’s always there

Jones is no stranger to a big midseason move. Last year, the Cowboys acquired star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets.
Could Dallas strike again? Jones is keeping his eyes and ears open for another possible splash. The 83-year-old wants to make the most of his 2026 team, which goes to Brazil to play the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.
“The opportunity’s always there if you wanna do like I do, and that’s dream these what-ifs up,” Jones said. “But I guess I’ve just felt so good about where we were after the game and what we can build on here that it encourages me to look for all ways to make this year something special.”
