Jerry Jones and extended contract sagas are a match made in heaven. The Dallas Cowboys owner has found himself in the middle of some high-profile contract negotiations, including those involving current quarterback Dak Prescott, who played under the franchise tag for consecutive seasons before getting that lucrative contract.
The most infamous recent one that Jones was involved in was the Micah Parsons saga, which ended with the former Cowboys star being traded to the Green Bay Packers after a disagreement over the involvement of Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta. CeeDee Lamb's contract extension negotiations were also pushed to the deadline.

Next up in line is the Cowboys' other star wide receiver: George Pickens. Jerry Jones acquired Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and 2027 fifth-round pick, while the Cowboys also received a 2027 sixth-round pick. Pickens wasted no time in showing what he could do and had the best season of his NFL career in 2025. Despite that, the Cowboys decided to place him on the franchise tag.
But, Jones should ideally be looking to lock in the Cowboys wide receiver after the 2026 season. Dak Prescott feels the same way. He also gave Jerry Jones and the Cowboys a reality check, saying that Pickens' price would continue to go up the longer they delay making a decision.
Speaking with Kay Adams on the "Up & Adams" show, Dak said, "You know George, you know he loves football. And at the end of the day, it's not for the money. However, he should get every dollar that he deserves because he's a hell of a player, and we should probably give it to him sooner than later because it's only gonna go up."
"He just wants to play football. So, franchise tag or not, it gives him an opportunity to go out there and not only play the game that he loves, but play with a team that has accepted him for who he is and allows him to go be the George that we love. And I think he enjoys being in this environment, being with his teammates, and playing for the Dallas Cowboys," he added.
The Cowboys have three preseason games coming up against the Seattle Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints, while they open the 2026 regular season against the New York Giants on September 13.
